The Produce Assistant Manager provides excellent customer satisfaction through the management and leadership of all produce clerks. This will be done by maintaining high standards in quality, variety, selection, food safety and sanitation for all products produced and sold in the produce department. This is to be accomplished in accordance with Kroger's policy on business ethics; through consistent and honest dealings with employees, vendors, customers and all outside parties.


Job Duties - Include but are not limited to the following:


  • Responsible for one's own safety and the safety of those with whom you work

  • Follow and maintaining all OSHA regulations and City Market Safety and Sanitation policies

  • Set the example for superior customer service

  • Responsible for Total Produce Department functions and activities in the absence of the Produce Manager (days off or Vacations, etc.) May include disciplining an employee, calling in extra needed labor, revising schedules, etc.

  • Assisting in overseeing the Salad Bar, along with the Salad Bar Manager, and assisting in the daily activities as needed.

  • To monitor and maintain optimum levels of customer service by teaching and enforcing all programs

  • Be able to place Produce orders for the needs of the department. Must be done in a timely manner, keeping in mind the needs of the department and maintaining stock levels

  • Holidays, staffing of department, merchandising needs and personnel needs and personnel issues must be planned, discussed with the management and executed as appropriate

  • Must train all employees on: new produce policies, product knowledge, new CM policies or programs

  • Product must be culled every day and dealt with immediately, keeping in mind shrink

  • All surveys must be filled out and sent in a timely manner

  • Responsible for accurate signing and pricing

  • Be able to be flexible with scheduled working hours, as the Produce Head Clerk may be scheduled to work when the Produce Manager is off, or work opposite schedules. Be willing to work evening shifts.

  • Responsible for checking product off of invoices on a daily basis and then turning them in for payment daily

  • Responsible for one's own safety and the safety of those with whom you work.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

* High School diploma or equivalent
* Ability to offer superior customer service

* Ability to handle stressful situations

* Effective oral and written communication skills

* Knowledge of basic math

* Ability to be flexible to work evenings, weekends and public holidays
* 2 years of retail experience

* 2 years of management experience


Desired Previous Job Experience

* Retail produce experience
* Retail management experience


Pay rate:
$17.46 per hour
